Schinkel's outstanding achievements as an architect and painter are undisputed. In contrast, Schinkel, the sculptor, is largely unknown. Although it can be proven that he never molded works himself or used a chisel, his drawn designs gave expression to his ideas about sculpture. The present volume traces Schinkel's path to sculpture.
